Hey there ACP! Queen Kay here with a special friend who is prepared to “tell all”. As many of you have probably seen, we have a lot of friends scattered around the island that seem to be there all day and all night. Well today I present one of our lovely AFK penguin friends who would like to share a little about their experience NOT waddling around.
Hello there reader. You may have seen me. I may or may not have seen you. I am what the community calls an afker. Which basically means I sit in one spot on Club Penguin Journey and don’t move (well… most of the time). Most of the time us afk players started off as a joke that turned into something kind of cool. I created this account to joke with some of my friends, sat in one spot, left for a moment, and then it blossomed into something I truly enjoy- sitting there being a part of the scenery. Truthfully, I keep a record of how long I can go without being disconnected. Currently 5 days since my last disconnect. I have also gotten super lucky having mascots come into the room I was AFK in and receiving the stamp and buddy request. I guess you could say I mastered the art of doing absolutely nothing. I do, however, see the things people say when I am actively at my computer. I have my left chat enabled so I can scroll up and see what was missed. I see the people that talk about me or come say hello… I find it interesting and sweet the attachment people build with us. The amount of buddy requests and postcards I receive when returning to my keyboard are astronomical and I am beyond grateful. I have seen social media and the posts of us, and it honestly brightens my day knowing I made an impact on someone. Players taking time out of their day to greet us and ask how we are, sitting next to us (fully knowing they won’t get a response back). It is amazing to see how many people, most of the time reoccurring people, have our characters be a small part of their day. Strangers showing kindness and love to a complete stranger is honestly refreshing. That is what Club Penguin is all about and I am happy to play a small part in that– makes my computer burning up worth it.

On the opposite side, however, I have also seen the posts of people who do not appreciate our presence on the server- clogging up the server, running up the queue, etc.. And I see people come up to us telling us to “leave” and that “we are not wanted here.” Well, I say that you are entitled to your opinion, and I get where you are coming from. I hope we do not annoy you too much. I mean we are obviously VERY loud and disruptive… Truthfully, the handful of us that are branded “NPC”s do not make that big of a difference compared to those AFK in the Mines, Iceberg, and Welcome Room. And if it upsets you that bad, then there are plenty of other servers. I try to respond to people when I can but at the end of the day, we are just here to chill, goof around, and ultimately have a good time. Many people ask “why?” and honestly, most of the time my penguin sits peacefully on the island while I handle other tasks like assignments or life things. So, it is comforting to know that part of me is relaxed. Sometimes penguins sit next to me, and we will send messages back and forth hours apart. The conversation keeps going without any pressure to answer right away. It is a quiet companionship I have grown fond of. I may not have the energy to move or talk all the time, but I enjoy being there. Even when CPJ is the smallest window I have open, it’s familiar and peaceful.

Overall, I love coming back to our computers after hours and seeing the chat. Whether someone is interacting directly or just chatting with friends. It is a great community to take part in. I find my own way of enjoying the game with the primary goal of just making others happy. Now a secret of mine I am going to share…. I do have another alt I use. One that is not afk. You probably see that penguin ALL of the time. I also may or may not be in cahoots with other afkers. Who knows! But I will leave you with one last message: do not be afraid to come say hello to us. We enjoy brightening up your day because you definitely brighten up ours. And those who do not appreciate our afk life- judge me not by my stillness, but to my loyalty to the server. See you around Club Penguin!

Good insight on the mind and intentions of AFK pengs I loved, “So, it is comforting to know that part of me is relaxed. ” as I could totally see that working! I hope you keep enjoying being AFK 🙂
