Time Capsule: Adobe Flash Shutdown

After a long time, welcome back to another edition of the Time Capsule column! This time, we will go back nearly 6 years and look back at the shutdown of Adobe Flash and how it affected ACP.

Adobe Flash was a multimedia software platform that could display text, vector graphics and raster graphics. There were countless websites and video games that operated with Flash. This also included the original Club Penguin, and Club Penguin Private Servers following Club Penguin’s shutdown.

Flash was used for many years. However, nothing lasts forever, and in July 2017, Flash’s End-Of-Life was announced for the end of 2020. This was due to reasons such as HTML5 becoming more wide-spread. This meant that after 2020, everything that uses Flash would stop working. This would obviously include CPPSes, and affect armies.

As the last couple of days of 2020 were unfolding, and everyone was getting ready for Flash to shut down, the ACP decided to declare war on the Special Weapons and Tactics, titled the Flash Nemesis War. The ACP went on to dominate the war with a war score of 7-0-0.

During this war, on December 30, the ACP invaded Nevisca and won the battle due to SWAT no-showing. Afterwards, the event continued as a farewell event to the CP Armies CPPS, being the last event the ACP ever hosted on CP Armies.

The next day, on December 31, ACP hosted the final AUSIA event of the year and of the Flash era, which was the invasion of Mittens against SWAT, taking place on the Frosty CPPS. This was the final battle of the Flash Nemesis War, and with SWAT no-showing, ACP automatically won.

Later that day, ACP logged onto Club Penguin Rewritten for the final time in the Flash era. This event, titled the Final Flash Event, would be ACP’s last event in 2020. Troops marched around the island while reminiscing significant events from the history of the army.

There were only two events between the 1st and 24th of January. On January 3, 2021, the ACP hosted the only test event on the new HTML5 version of CPR. However, it wouldn’t be until the 24th of January that the ACP would host a return event on CPR. The return event was also a battle between Alpha and Echo, which ended in a tie. After that, CPR was the only CPPS used prior to the introduction of CPA: Battleground in late 2022.
