I am writing this post in full knowledge that Akabob22, one of Club Penguin armies oldest soldiers, has retired. In his retirement post, he cited examples of just how much things have changed, unfortunately quite for the worse, and I would like to share some of them.

I think this is the case in almost all armies now. There is no fun left. It’s all about hate. I hate you so I’m going to war, hey I hate you too I’ll help you destroy these guys. Let me say some evil things in a post to make the other side feel like crap. Maybe I’ll hack and delete their site and chat. Wars in Club Penguin we’re supposed to be for fun, but we’ve turned it into a tool for bullying other people. It’s like the classic elementary dodgeball game. “Let’s all gang up on that kid!” Even when there have been wars, they haven’t been fun, otherwise they would have lasted longer than a few days. I’ll use ACP as an example since we’re always the main target of “hate”. Doesn’t it seem like a problem that when one army declares war on another, everyone else goes to war too? A lot of wars used to be private matters, one army versus another so that you could settle some difference or prove you were better. You would say “no allies” because it always interfered with what you were trying to accomplish. It was your war, not theirs, so back off. I have been in ACP for a long time now, but no one has ever given me a good reason for hating ACP. Why are we hating anyone at all is the real question.
“It’s not even really fighting anymore, now that I realize it. Instead of two sides, there are now over 10 in one battle, all fighting for their own cause. Battles now turn out to have people scattered throughout a server, with no one really knowing what to do until a leader gave the order. There are joke bombs, bots, spamming “SEARCH _______!”, but it never ends.”
I was just talking to Luc about how much fun wars used to be when it was a group of your friends, fighting together throwing snowballs. Go to a battle now and tell me how many times someone throws a snowball. You could probably count on one hand. All the spamming turned wars into the biggest n00b fest. You can be winning and losing at the same time. There’s no organization, it’s just people running around looking like idiots saying random stuff. Not to be mean, but when Club Penguin was bought out by Disney, the age of the people using Club Penguin went down. This explains Aka’s point that people will be scattered around a server until someone with some amount of tactical skill can get them together in a group. This used to not be the case. The soldiers were older, and something about the environment of being on Club Penguin constantly gave them a great sense of tactics. I really have no idea if anyone apart from some leaders knows tactics themselves anymore. I can’t look at ACP or any other army and think “that guy/girl is a born leader”. And I don’t just mean THE leader, it could be a Brigadier General or a Colonel. Someone who comes on chat and says “let’s get a patrol together, or let’s do some recruiting”. Who is the next Oagalthorp, Commando717, or Pink Mafias? There’s nobody like that anymore as far as I can see. Go back 2 years ago and there were tons of soldiers like that. The ACP Hall of Fame is full of them. Goozgooz, Gorond, David Shawn, Nrop, Lt Giovanni, Orcacam, Penquin Jim, these guys were leaders. Oagal was a great leader, but he had some of the best Generals helping him. None of our Generals, or any other rank for that matter, can compare to what those guys used to do for ACP. Maybe that’s the problem.

I know, seriously Rap. Did your rebellion make you feel good about yourself yet?

What ever happened to pride for your army? I see it all the time in the new recruits, but eventually it goes away. Now, if you don’t get promoted, you throw a tantrum like a 4 year old and leave for another army (preferably one that is an enemy of the one that you left) in an attempt to get revenge because you didn’t get a damn promotion. We want soldiers who are loyal no matter what. If you need a rank and a shiny medal for every little thing you do, you shouldn’t be here. It’s not like that in life, so why should it be so here?
How about some quotes from Bill Gates to prove what I mean.

Back to Aka:

Anyone else figure out yet that it’s not the lack of wars that makes it boring, it’s the way in which we go about war. We need to fix the system.
On to my main point, why alliances have ruined Club Penguin armies. Many people place the end of warfare and the beginning of the era of peace around when I joined ACP. Some say it was the idea of “Alliances” that ended this period. Building off of this new idea, Oagal, as great as he was, thought that ANTA, essentially an ultimate alliance of the major armies, was a good idea. The idea never was put into action during his time, but later in 2008, Shadow established it for the first time, once again tying all the major armies in a knot of alliances, and wars were rare. Eventually, ANTA fell, and “The Alliance” took its place. It was started by perhaps Commando or Aka as an “all major armies except ACP” group. So obviously these armies weren’t going to fight each other, they had a common enemy. This is where things started to fall apart in the modern CP warfare era. Thankfully, Person deleted the site (by accident he claims), however alliances formed in this group have still rarely been broken today, and even after ACP was allowed in, there was no real “alliance” between ACP and any of the others.
Because of this, ACP is at the center of almost every single war (I know, you must be jealous), mainly because we never made alliances with the other armies. Those original Alliance armies have to go to war with us because they are in an alliance with all the others, so war amongst them is not an option. Don’t get the wrong idea, I maintained good relations with all the major armies during my time as leader, but I didn’t tie myself down with alliances. The Nachos on the other hand were allies with just about everyone, and couldn’t get involved in anything (unless of course it was against ACP and alliances weren’t in the way). I one time asked Person to back us up against UMA and he said he couldn’t because “The day the Nachos betray UMA is the day Oagalthorp kills Chuck Norris”. Or something ridiculous like that. Jayson, one of the oldest soldiers left in CP armies, had the brilliant idea for the Nachos to go 2 whole weeks without alliances. Just go to war with whoever. Unfortunately it only lasted about 2 days.
Again recently, we were questioning why the Nachos had declared war on ACP for not having elections (I could have sworn the Nachos agreed a while back that too much government ruined armies, so why go to war asking for more government…) when there were plenty of other un-democratic armies, specifically IW, who hasn’t elected (or even had) a new leader other than Icey in its almost 2 year existance. The reason was very simple. “They are one of our best allies.” Anyone see the problem yet? IW and the Nachos are pretty evenly matched, yet we’ll never see a war between them because of alliances. We’ll never see the Nachos fight UMA, we’ll probably never see WW fight RPF. With all these alliances in place, it’s no wonder ACP is the only one anyone goes to war on. These alliances are blocking EVERYTHING. If you thought I was a bad leader because we didn’t go to war enough, think of what I had to face. If I so much as thought about invading another army’s server, 3 other armies already had posts up about war with ACP. A while back ACP went to war with RPF because they were trying to hack us. Seems like a good reason to go to war with someone, right? Because of alliances, not even something as bad as hacking could separate them, and all the other major armies rushed to help RPF because ACP was the only army they were allowed to fight. I want to see a major war that’s balanced again. I want a FW, WW, RPF, BP vs. UMA, IW, ST, DW war. I want to see IW and FW have a war to see who is really the third largest army. That’s what armies used to be like. There used to be 5+ armies on a server just fighting. Who cares about the politics, the motive, the reason for war. Just go out there and fight, for fun. Someone invade another army’s server for no reason and see what happens. But as long as we keep to alliances, that will never happen. Why are armies falling? No real wars. Why are there no real wars? Alliances. That’s your answer.
