Perhaps the best proof there is a Santa

Eight-year-old Virginia O’Hanlon wrote a letter to the editor of New York’s Sun, and the quick response was printed as an unsigned editorial Sept. 21, 1897. The work of veteran newsman Francis Pharcellus Church has since become history’s most reprinted newspaper editorial, appearing in part or whole in dozens of languages in books, movies, and other editorials, and on posters and stamps.

“DEAR EDITOR: I am 8 years old.

“Some of my little friends say there is no Santa Claus.

“Papa says, ‘If you see it in THE SUN it’s so.’

“Please tell me the truth; is there a Santa Claus?

“VIRGINIA O’HANLON.

“115 WEST NINETY-FIFTH STREET.”

VIRGINIA, your little friends are wrong. They have been affected by the skepticism of a skeptical age. They do not believe except [what] they see. They think that nothing can be which is not comprehensible by their little minds. All minds, Virginia, whether they be men’s or children’s, are little. In this great universe of ours man is a mere insect, an ant, in his intellect, as compared with the boundless world about him, as measured by the intelligence capable of grasping the whole of truth and knowledge.

Yes, VIRGINIA, there is a Santa Claus. He exists as certainly as love and generosity and devotion exist, and you know that they abound and give to your life its highest beauty and joy. Alas! how dreary would be the world if there were no Santa Claus. It would be as dreary as if there were no VIRGINIAS. There would be no childlike faith then, no poetry, no romance to make tolerable this existence. We should have no enjoyment, except in sense and sight. The eternal light with which childhood fills the world would be extinguished.

Not believe in Santa Claus! You might as well not believe in fairies! You might get your papa to hire men to watch in all the chimneys on Christmas Eve to catch Santa Claus, but even if they did not see Santa Claus coming down, what would that prove? Nobody sees Santa Claus, but that is no sign that there is no Santa Claus. The most real things in the world are those that neither children nor men can see. Did you ever see fairies dancing on the lawn? Of course not, but that’s no proof that they are not there. Nobody can conceive or imagine all the wonders there are unseen and unseeable in the world.

You may tear apart the baby’s rattle and see what makes the noise inside, but there is a veil covering the unseen world which not the strongest man, nor even the united strength of all the strongest men that ever lived, could tear apart. Only faith, fancy, poetry, love, romance, can push aside that curtain and view and picture the supernal beauty and glory beyond. Is it all real? Ah, VIRGINIA, in all this world there is nothing else real and abiding.

No Santa Claus! Thank God! he lives, and he lives forever. A thousand years from now, Virginia, nay, ten times ten thousand years from now, he will continue to make glad the heart of childhood.

What Christmas is to me

Christmas for me is a time of celebration and being with my family. If you are a christian, you are celebrating the birth of Christ. Some Celebrate the African Kwanzaa, others of Jewish decent or faith, celebrate Hanuka. Some here may even celebrate the pagan solstice. No matter your religious or ethnic back ground we are all family here at ACP. We all celebrate together in our own traditional ways. At my house we have our Christmas tree adorned with ornaments hand made, store bought and some passed down from my grand parents, and great grand parents. To me this allows them to still be here among us in memory and heart. This year will be the first Christmas with out my brother. My parents try to hide their pain and grief from us, but we see it and understand it and accept it. This Christmas will be difficult, but in the true spirit, a celebration of birth. We will think back to a life gone, life going forward and life yet to come. Tonight when Santa comes down our chimney and graces our tree with presents and stockings full of goodies, he will be entering a home of love, grief, happiness and sadness all in one. The one thing we wish most for this Christmas will never be, but the one thing we will always have is family, and I think that is true for each and everyone of us this holiday season. No matter which form of holiday you chose to celebrate, please take one moment to think about your family and what each means to you, then tell them how much they mean to you. It’s a gift they will cherish forever. Trust me on that.

Merry Christmas, Happy Kwanzaa, Happy Hanuka and here’s to a great Pagan Solstice ACP!

Various CP army sites have done awards over the years, and I think it’s time for ACP to have some. Nominate your favorite candidates using this form. Vote for the best of 2009! Watex’s Forums!

I was talking with him recently, and we were able to set up an ACP Thread (currently empty) on the forums, so I highly suggest you sign up so we can make the thread active! The wonderful Horrors of War by Fred317

It was any other day in the ACP the boys and me were in the mess hall enjoying breakfest..prehaps for the last time. I walked over and sat down with KG, he was enjoying a tuna fish sandwich I had bacon and egg. I said “Hello KG how goes it” kg repiled ahh not to much wished i hadnt retired i laughed as put salt on my eggs. Well you saw your fair share of action. Just then we all are hushed as we heard the roar of planes we ran out side looking up into the crisp morning air we see hundreds of yellow and orange planes amd they have a sombero emblazind upon them i whispered “it cant be”. La crucu racha was playing as they swooped down and began to strafe the airfields Bommer came running out of his office his pipe fell to the ground he stood there just looking at what he was happening after a few still seconds he shouted “EVERYONE TO YOUR PLANES LETS GO GO GO” Boomer you need to get out of here shouted sir bleuy NO Boomer shouted im helping to fight ive waited to long to do anything nows my chance READY MY PLANE! YES SIR!.I climbed in and checked my gauges and fuel I hit the ignition the plane roared to life. Me and the 44 other members of eagle squadron take off some are shot before take off no more than 20 of us are left flying its me and bleuy boomer shab kg i have no idea why he would do that batin sonic and others i pick out my first target its a lone dive bomber belching smoke looking like it had engine trouble i move in for thee kill then tracers fly by me i had two nachos on my tail kg radioed in need a hand he swooped down but he was coming to fast a nacho blew his tail off. KG!!!!!!!!!!!! NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!. the plane hit the ground roling and flipping NOT HIM THATS IT IM IM THROUGH PLAYIN AROUND. to be continued

Still Bored

Well our potential battle was cancelled yesterday, but we’re running out of time to do anything before Christmas, so we’re just going to do a kind of chat rally/Division thing. I know it’s early (it’s Christmas Eve so it kinda had to be), but this gives our U.K. people a chance to make it too. If we can get enough people on, we will probably break off into the Division chats since we haven’t really done that yet. Hope you can make it!

Important: Make sure you know your Division, or you won’t know which chat to go to! You can check HERE, and if you don’t have one you can just pick one for now.

Retirement of Sklooperis

Yep, its true. I’ve gotten WAY too old for CP armies. I made a lot of friends. I won’t make an extremely long post. Just thanking some people.

Tuxy- Good friend at ACP. Awesome. I’ll miss you.

Uno- You were HILARIOUS. One of my best friend ever in ACP. Chat would’ve been so boring without you. Sad to think I may never see you again. Good luck in life, you’ll have a great one.

Lillie Rose- I never did get to finish that CPMV. I’m sorry about what happened. If you read this, know that you’re and amazing person, and were a great friend.

Matre10- I think that you’re the most amazing soldier I’ve ever seen in any army ever, including leaders. ACPTR leader, you win every contest on ACP, you’re probably the most active ACP soldier. You’ll make it amazingly far if you keep this up. Good Luck.

Hatt- Just like Uno, HILARIOUS. I’ll miss you a lot, you were a great friend, I was never angry at you.

Dobby- ZOMG Wobby! XD You were the greatest, I’ll miss you.

Sonic The 1- My first and best friend in ACP. I probably wouldn’t have stayed if it wasn’t for you. I don’t know what I’d have done without you. I know you do a good job in life.

Noka11- JG FTW! Stupid Jimmie spoiling his chances xD. I had a lot of fun talking to you throughout the year about Nascar and stuff. Good luck bud.

Chapa-We never did get our Club Penguin codes, did we? Lol you were always nice to me, I’ll never forget you.

Yanksrule14-I hope you read this some day. You were one of the nicest people I ever talked to in armies. Good Luck in life, and happy retirement.

Saint: Qsaint, gah! You were the funniest person at ACP. I’m glad you’re back. PS, thanks for posting this for me 😀 So long.

Bluey- “I had one sock off and my pants were in my mouth.” LOL I was there for that one xD. Amazing, amazing friend. I don’t know what I would do if you weren’t around, you gave me a lot of support. Good luck.

Larry Guy- Great leader while you were one. You have always been so nice to me. One of my best friends. I’ll miss you man.

Iasage- You’re wrong xD. You can’t always be perfect ias. You were awesome, and have become one of my best friend in ACP. Good luck in ACP, and in life.

Thom- We never did start that Army Site xD. You were always so nice to me. Congrats on 3ic.

Boomer- … Amazing leader. I don’t know what I would do without you. ACP was, is, and will forever be a part of my life that I’ll never forget. I wish you answered a bit quicker, but hey, you’re busy, just like the rest of us. Good Luck in life.
