Fox: My English teacher gave us a poem, I’ll post it at the bottom. I also added Air Force to the list because my dad was in the air force. We get a free meal today, so that’s a plus 😛
Batintrenche: Great Post Bfan, Its called Rememberance Day here in Canada. I know I’ll sure be wearing my poppy with pride and respect!
Larry Guy: Great post Bfan! Veterans deserve all the praise they can get!
tomorrow/today (depends when you read this) is November 11th not only is it my parents anniversary, it’s a very special holiday, it’s called Veterans Day! For those who don’t know what Veterans Day is, it’s a holiday you honor soldiers, whether they were in the Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force, coast Guard, or National Guard. This is an American holiday, however in other countries they serve holidays to honor soldiers. so if you have a veteran in your family I suggest telling them something, Thank You. These civilians have saved our country and protected us from god knows what.

(comment what holiday you celebrate on the bottom that involves veterans)
Freedom is not Free
By Kelly Strong
I watched the flag pass by one day,
It fluttered in the breeze;
A young Marine saluted it,
And then he stood at ease.
I looked at him in uniform,
So young, so tall, so proud;
With hair cut square and eyes alert,
He’d stand out in any crowd.
I thought… how many men like him
Had fallen through the years?
How many died on foreign soil?
How many mothers’ tears?
How many pilots’ planes shot down
How many died at sea
How many foxholes were soldiers’ graves
No, Freedom is not Free.
I heard the sound of Taps one night,
When everything was still;
I listened to the bugler play,
And felt a sudden chill;
I wondered just how many times
That Taps had meant “Amen”
When a flag had draped a coffin
Of a brother or a friend;
I thought of all the children,
Of the mothers and the wives,
Of fathers, sons, and husbands.
With interrupted lives.
I thought about a graveyard
At the bottom of the sea,
Of unmarked graves in Arlington.
No. Freedom is not Free!
So many of us (This is Fox now – not the poem, hehe) take Veteran’s Day as just another day off – like Columbus Day or a Jewish holiday for us non-Jewish peeps. “Yay! Day off! Woot!” Yeah, it’s okay to celebrate the day off, but also remember all the peeps that have died fighting for your freedom. So thank you, everyone who sacrificed so much so that I could have these things today.

Happy Veterans Day. <3

I call it remembrance day.
The weirdest thing is, I paraded and sat through a 2hr long service on Sunday, then sat through a 2 hr long Mass of Remembrance today. Yet Fox’s speech that lasted a few lines really meant more than anything that has ever been said about this… I dunno why.
Twingy
thank you veterans
my grandpa was in ww2 and we have pictures and medals and stuff of it so was some of my other family and some of my dads friends went to nam sadly my grandpa died before i was born and my dads friends are still alive
both of my grandfathers served. my maternal (mom’s side) grandfather was in the navy. my paternal (dad’s side) grandfather was in the army. my paternal grandfather served briefly during the Korean War, but luckily he was not wounded. my maternal grandfather only served during peaceful times.
i do rememberance day… and i had a great grandad who SURVIVED until the end of WW1 and he was in WW2 he survived both battles of the Somme and he was a pilot, but switched because his commanding officer transferred him to ground… he was 2nd lieutenent when he was in WW2 and im WW1 he was 1st lieutenent… GOD BLESS HIM….

i hope we all do remembrance day because troops are risking there lives just to help US we should all be hopefull that they are okay.
